Facebook Messenger for Kids

Image result for messenger kidsA website that was originally made for college students connect online has now made a new app for kids 13 and under to connect online. Facebook has officially launched the app "Messenger Kids." Facebook has been making more and more apps since its humble beginnings. Facebook wants to be the only app one needs from social media to games. On December 4, 2017, Facebook officially launched the app so 13 years and younger kids can have a way to communicate with friends. The one concern that most people have with this app is with privacy and safety. Facebook did their research and promises that the app will address all parents worries about the app. One of the most popular kids targeted apps have struggled because they have had inappropriate content for kids be shown on the apps. Facebook has worked with organizations to make sure that the app was developed with the kids' concerns in mind every step of the way. One of the main features of the app is that the parent needs to set up the account for their child and the parent must approve contacts for their kids to communicate with. Parents can't see conversations but can be notified if their child reports abuse. So kids can still have their private conversations, but still can be protected. It seems like Facebook wants to start them young and be a part of everyone's life at a young age. I personally wouldn't want my future child using social media until they are older. I know how kids can be on the internet and I don't want to be part of that until they can understand what kind of power the internet has in the world. Check out the Facebook's website MessengerKids.com for more information for parents about the new app.

  1. I agree until they are old enough to understand the dangers of social media. They really do not need to be on it.
