Celtics Win Streak Continues
The Atlanta Hawks were a surprisingly tough team for the Celtics last night. After a long battle, The Celtics came out on top once again with a 110-107 win.
Boston came out of the gates strong, working that two-man game with Boston's stars Al Horford and Kyrie Irving. Al Horford, in his fourth game back in Atlanta since signing with Boston, had seven points, four rebounds and three assists all in the first quarter. Even though the Celtics had a strong start, Celtics only lead by one point at the end of the first quarter.
The Atlanta Hawks came back with a strong second quarter. The Hawks used the pick-and-roll game with Dennis Schroder and Dewayne Dedmon. Dedmon and Schroder combined for 26 points in the first half. The size of Dedmon gave the Celtics trouble when he was near the basket. The Hawks went on a ten-to-two run, pushing the Hawks' lead to six. Kyrie got hot and carried the Celtics back into the game with amazing shooting. The Hawks are probably the worst team in the NBA, so the first half was surprisingly competitive. The Celtics and Hawks went to the locker rooms at halftime tied at 54.
The second half started back up the competitiveness with a back-and-forth affair. With Dennis Schroder scoring at will, It seemed like Atlanta was going to run away with the victory. Kyrie wasn't going to let them have it that easily. Kyrie had some great passes to an open Jayson Tatum for threes and the Celtics went on a run which led them to be up by seven at the end of the third quarter.
The fourth quarter started strong for the Celtics, but the Hawks still had some fight in them. The Hawks' bench provided a spark and were hitting three after three. Things looked back for the Celtics when Kent Bazemore hit a go-ahead three-pointer with just five minutes remaining. The fourth quarter was a battle, going back-and-forth. It was a one-point game for a long time. All hope seemed lost when Malcolm Delaney hit a three, putting the Hawks up by two with only about two minutes left. Irving was cold-blooded, Kyrie came back down the court and hit a three of his own, putting the Celtics back on top by one. The next Celtic's possession, Tatum hit a corner three, putting the Celtics up by four. After some free throws by the Hawks, Irving was rock solid and nailed a floater in the lane to ice the game and put Boston up by four. The game ended with a Celtics victory 110-107.
The Celtic have now won nine straight and move to nine-and-two on the year. The Celtics have the best record in the NBA right now. The Celtics tip-off next against Lonzo Ball and the Lakers on Wednesday night. Hopefully,
the streak continues!
