SWOT Analysis: New NBA Jerseys

The NBA season starts October 13 and it will be the first season where the players will be wearing the new jerseys made by Nike. The old jersey deal was Adidas, but Nike won the new global multi-year partnership. To analyze the NBA's decision for a new jersey deal, one will need to examine the strengths and weaknesses

Strengths
The new uniforms were designed using input from current NBA players, as well as 25 years of technological research conducted by Nike at different levels of basketball. The players are responding well to the new jerseys. “The mental advantage of a quality uniform is priceless,” said Kyrie Irving when discussing the Nike jerseys. The jerseys are more than just slapping on a Nike. They have made changes that will benefit the players. The jerseys will remove moisture more quickly than previous NBA uniforms; wicking sweat 30% faster than current NBA uniforms resulting in a 15% quicker drying time.

                                                                           Weaknesses

One of the most iconic parts of the NBA are the jerseys. With the change in brands, the teams won't be able to wear those iconic throwback jerseys. The teams lose that recognizable image of the jerseys.

  1. Personally, I love basketball season! When news of the new jerseys surfaced, I couldn’t wait to see the new looks for each team. In this blog, the strengths of the jerseys are great, considering that the new design will help keep players less sweaty. This will be very beneficial to players in the league. The weakness stated may not be weaknesses to others, but the throwback jerseys will be missed by me!
