Up a Creek with a Paddle

One of the best shows on TV right now is a show that not many people are watching. This show is the Canadian program Schitt's Creek. Schitt's Creek premiered back in 2015 and is about a wealthy family who has all of their assets seized to pay their taxes. As such, the family, how are spoiled are forced to move to the town of Schitt's Creek, which the father bought the son as a joke for his 16th birthday and is now the family's only asset. The show is about the family adjusting to their new life and struggling to cope with the townspeople. The show has a fish-out-of-water comedy meets Arrested Development. The Roses don't have terrible as the Bluths, just entitled and completely out of their element. Here are a few reasons why one should absolutely watch Schitt's Creek.

The first reason is the on-screen chemistry of Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara. Eugene Levy plays the father of the Rose family and Catherine O'Hara plays the mother. Levy plays more of the straight man who actually wants the best for his family, while O'Hara is the star of her life and everyone else's life. The back and forth for the couple keeps the viewers on their toes when they have to wonder how Levy is going to fix the family situation while O'Hara is wondering when "her" life will be fixed. The second reason to watch the show is Daniel Levy. If one can't tell by the last name, Daniel is the real-life son of Eugene Levy and he plays the on-screen son as well. Daniel plays David Rose, the self-centered and sexually ambiguous son of the Rose family. Daniel Levy is poised to be the breakout star of the series. He literally steals every scene he's in. The third reason to watch the show is the well-crafted humor of the show. Although Schitt's Creek is a fairly smart show, the title should give one some idea that the show will also have a little bit of toilet humor. The humor is smart and at time laugh-out-loud funny. The final reason to watch the show is Chris Elliot is at his best. Chris Elliot plays the mayor of the town Roland Schitt. He is crude and obnoxious but is proud and insecure at the same time. He seems to always overstay his welcome and annoy everyone, but you don't want him to leave. I can't imagine anyone else playing Roland the Elliot because he plays him so well.
One of the main reasons people aren't watching Schitt's Creek is because it's a Canadian show and people have so many shows in America to watch. This foreign show is one that should go ahead of the American shows one wants to watch. It's funny and sincere. How the family develops and grows is the heart of the show.
